Camels complete competition at ITA Regionals

The Fighting Camels wrapped up competition at the 2025 ITA Carolinas Regional, hosted by UNC. The Camels faced some of the strongest programs in the Southeast during the weekend event. 

Singles Results
Sonia Pieczynska
  • Opened the tournament with a Qualifying Draw victory over Eda Arli (UNC Wilmington) 6–7 (6), 6–0, 6–2.
  • Fell in the second qualifying round to Taya Powell (Appalachian State) 3–6, 3–6.
Jessica Maras
  • Lost in the first round of the Qualifying Draw to Juana Weiss-Gomez (North Carolina A&T) 3–6, 4–6.
  • Competed in the Qualifying Consolation Bracket, fighting hard but falling in three sets to Mia Miranda (Western Carolina) 6–4, 3–6, [10–3].
Hayley Glen
  • Competed in the Main Draw, losing in the opening round to Shavit Kimchi (Duke) 1–6, 2–6.
  • Fought hard in the Main Draw Consolation, narrowly losing to Mariya Dobreva (Western Carolina) 6–4, 2–6, [10–8].
Doubles Results
Jessica Maras / Sonia Pieczynska
  • Won their first-round Main Draw match over Hokualohi Lui / Axelle Van Beurden (Western Carolina) 8–3.
  • Fell in the second round to the No. 6 seeded team of Mia Slama / Lavinia Tanasie (NC State) 1–8.
Hayley Glen / Brooke Murphy
  • Received a first-round bye in the Main Draw.
  • Competed in the second round, falling to the No. 5 seeded team of Amelie Smejkalova / Gaia Parravicini (NC State) 1–8.
What We're Proud Of
  • Competing at the ITA Carolinas Regional highlights the growth and competitiveness of our program.
  • Highlights included Sonia's qualifying win, Jessica's multi-match effort, Hayley's close consolation match, and the doubles teams' strong performances, including a first-round win for Jessica / Sonia.
  • Every athlete gained invaluable experience facing top-tier regional competition.

  • Focus areas for the team include serve-return execution, net transitions, and doubles communication.
