Mike Collins is a Harnett County native and has been a member of Campbell University’s Department of Athletics for more than 25 years, currently serving as Director of Sports Turf.
In his role, Collins oversees all turfgrass operations for Campbell’s outdoor athletic facilities, including seven natural grass fields and three artificial turf fields. He attended North Carolina State University, where he studied Turfgrass Science and worked as a student employee within the athletic department, gaining early hands-on experience in sports turf management.
Well respected throughout the industry, Collins has been recognized by North Carolina Turfgrass Magazine as one of the top sports turf professionals in the field and has authored several published articles. His expertise has contributed to both the quality and safety of high-profile athletic surfaces.
Collins has played key leadership and operational roles within the athletic department and in numerous major events. He served as Tournament Director for the 2016 Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship and the 2015 Big South Conference Softball Championship. He also contributed significantly to event operations when Campbell University co-hosted the 2015 NCAA Women’s College Cup, 2014 NCAA Men’s College Cup, and 2013 NCAA Women’s College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. Earlier in his career, Collins assisted with operations for the 1999 World Special Olympics held at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Collins is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), North Carolina Turfgrass Council, Sports Turf Management Association (STMA), and the Sports Stadium Association (SMA).
Mike and his wife Dena, are the parents of three children, Madison, Morgan and Matthew.
